Self defense techniques: The Self Defense Training System!

6 October 2009 No Comment

Having been involved in martial arts for over twenty years now, I have tried and tested probably every course out there at one time or another.

When I was younger I used to scour the back pages of martial art magazines looking for correspondence courses and information on hand to hand combat techniques, strength and power building. I sent off for everything I could find. Much of it was absolute rubbish and some of it was incredibly useful; mostly though they fell short of actually doing what they promised.

These days, things have a got a lot more sophisticated and professional and that has led to some products that are very, very good indeed. Again I have purchased many eBooks, instructional videos and DVDs and also courses in my pursuit of excellence. Not just in martial arts training and fighting techniques but in mind training, concentration, psychology and more.

Hand to hand combat of any kind has a lot to do with how you think. Success in fighting begins in the mind. That success begins with the correct training and if you are starting out or want to supplement the training that you already do then I recommend the Self Defense Company’s Self Defense Training System.

I will write a longer review of this course and some of the others that are out there but for now here is a brief overview of the ‘system’ as is.

The “Self Defense Training System” consists of 12 training modules which cover the following areas:

  1. Essential self defense.
  2. Advanced methods of striking.
  3. Ground fighting for keeps.
  4. Defense against mugs and holds.
  5. Escape and evasion techniques.
  6. Body conditioning.
  7. Combat physical training.
  8. Weapons defense.
  9. Weapons offense: knife and club.
  10. Combat throws and takedowns.
  11. Old school weapons and tactics.
  12. Quick killing and deadly finishing techniques.

Every module comes with 2-3 DVDs plus an extensive manual outlining the techniques. As well as this you get full support form the Damien Ross, the founder, and his team of experts. You can try the first module for free with no catch, which I think is a pretty good deal. If its not for you or it isn’t what you expected you can return it, no problem. However, if you do look at it, you will probably like it so much that you’ll go and get the rest!
